The Oppo A53 packs inside a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 which is a very basic SoC. Obviously, the SoC is not suited for gaming but can handle the day to day tasks with ease. The Snapdragon SoC has a maximum clock speed of up to 1.8 GHz and AAA games take a lot of time loading up. Paired with the Snapdragon 460 you get 4 GB of RAM which barely makes up for the almost primitive SoC. Keeping gaming aside other daily tasks like social media browsing and net surfing, work smoothly on the Oppo A53 but you might want to avoid having multiple tabs open. But the average user looking for a phone in the price segment of the Oppo A53 shall have no issue with using it after all an INR 12,999 phone is not and should not be expected to run like a cheetah. There are no visible crashes or lags but the phone does feel a bit slow given the basic SoC and the small amount of RAM. Competitors in the same price segment offer at least a 6 GB RAM, so Oppo certainly has room to improve with the Oppo A53. The GPU duties are handled by the Adreno 610 GPU and match up with the chipset.

Summary
This is one segment where Oppo has done a decent job. There are some drawbacks to the display but there are also some unique aspects. For one, the Oppo A53 does not have any of the fancy AMOLED or OLED screen you would expect. It has a 6.5 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. Clearly, Oppo was not aiming for the skies with the display. The colours are decent and the video quality is average, but some of the texts and edges might appear blurred. But the shocking news is the 90 Hz refresh rate that the A53 offers. No one would have thought about it but here we are with a display that will offer you smooth touch all the way. The resolution is not great and some would be of the mind that perhaps a 60 Hz refresh rate would suffice with better resolution. The screen has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a pixel density of 270 pixels per inch. You also get a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the screen which is a bit of a bargain.
Summary
One more segment that helps the Oppo A53 just stand an inch above the competition, is its battery power. The Oppo A53 packs a 5000mAh battery which is huge given its price segment. The battery lasts almost a day even with heavy usage like browsing and heavy gaming. The battery life is exceptional and if you are just an occasional user of the phone, then the Oppo A53 will last you a couple of days on a single full battery, a phenomenal display of battery life. But if you think you can use up all the juice in the Oppo A53, fear not because the makers at Oppo went a step further and provide 18 W fast charging capabilities. Oppo claims and has also proved that the Oppo A53 can get a full charge in under two hours which is a testament to its low price tag.
Summary
Oppo is known for photography but clearly, the Oppo A53 is not following that pathway. If you are a photographer or want to use this phone for clicking lots of photos, please have a look at the competition. The camera comprises a very mediocre triple camera setup consisting of a 13 MP main snapper, a 2 MP macro sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor. Clearly, the specs are not enticing. Daylight photography is average and only saved by the HDR and Dazzle Color technology that Oppo added. Other than that, there is no night mode and clicking photos in the low light condition is a nightmare. Even with the low price tag, Oppo should have included a night mode in the Oppo A53. The front camera is a 16 MP snapper and is better than the rear camera frankly speaking. The picture reproduction is good but could be better.
Summary
A glossy back finish makes the Oppo A53 very sleek in its design but also makes it prone to finger smudges and scratches. The phone is on the chunkier side and is a bit heavy but the buttons are placed for comfortable use with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Oppo A53 feels good in the hand and the exterior has a few premium touches. At first glance and picking up, it is hard to term the Oppo A53 as a budget phone.
