The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is supposed to be the downgraded version of its Galaxy Tab S8 sibling and the makers made the most obvious decision to reduce the price. Instead of going with a top-notch processor, Samsung decided to go with Qualcomm SDM429 Snapdragon 429 SoC. The 2 GHz quad-core processor is a little slow but works efficiently. The processor is good for the casual users of the tab but for heavy users and gamers, you might want to look at other options and that too from the same line.

AAA games take a lot of time to load and have visible stuttering while operating. The chipset is weak, to say the least, and there is a lag in every touch and swipe gesture. Scrolling can also be frustrating when done on a very long page. The quad-core SoC is paired with just 2 GB of RAM that does little to alleviate the slow performance of the SoC. There is 32 GB of internal storage available which can be expanded.

The 8-inch screen is a TFT LCD that is downgraded as compared to the AMOLED display offered by its premium sibling. The screen has a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels but the LCD screen performs underwhelmingly compared to its competitors. The color reproduction is average but they are not very vivid or crisp. But the display is good enough for movie watchers at up to 720p resolutions after which the quality differs hugely. The screen is bright which is a good thing under the sunlight but this also means that the dark mode is not that effective in saving power and can stress the eyes. The aspect ratio is 16:10 which is close to the prominent 16:9 aspect ratio of TVs and Laptops and this enhances the viewing experience.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 packs a decent 5100 mAh battery. You will not have to charge the battery frequently because the large battery will easily last you a day or more. Casual daily tasks like streaming, social media, browsing, and the occasional gaming do not drain the battery very quickly. For less frequent users the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 shall last you much longer. Even video calling does not drain the battery quickly. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 comes with a charger that is slow, too slow often. The tab is better charged in shorts bursts or while being used rather than plugging it and forgetting about it. The makers at Samsung should have thought about including a better fast charge capacity if they want to entice the customers.

A hardy look; the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 has a metal frame with a glass front, an aluminium frame, and a plastic back. It can probably survive a few accidental drops, though you may not want to test that given the price tag. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is on the heavier side weighing in at 476g. It is ideal for use with two hands and one-handed use is a show of one-handed strength. The bezels are surprisingly very thin and the thinnest when compared to other tabs in their price range. This means the tab is easy to hold onto and use. The Galaxy Tab A 8.0 weighs in at 345g which is a bit on the heavier side. Nevertheless, you will not be planning to use this Tab for long and jump on to a better deal as soon as you find one.
