The design and display of the Xiaomi Redmi 7 are very different from the previous models. The company preferred to go with multi-coloured shades and not metallic-like design seen previously in the Redmi 6 series. The Redmi 7 is available in three multi gradient eye-catching colours like Eclipse black, Comet Blue and Lunar Red.
The other two colours are also in the lines of the colour’ Aura Smoke' because they have a cool, fading texture. ‘Comet Blue’ colour starts with a dark lavender theme that merges into a bright blue at the bottom. ‘Lunar Red’ fades from a black to blood red at the bottom. The fading of such colour combinations at the bottom of each case creates the 'Aura Smoke' effect.
Redmi 7 has a 6.26-inch display, much larger than the previous 5.45-inch models. It is both heavier and bigger. It weighs 180 g and has an 8.47mm thickness. Xiaomi has used Gorilla Glass 5, which gives users guaranteed security of the display quality. The big screen makes it difficult to reach your thumb in all corners of the display.
The phone’s back panel has a glossy, matte finish, but the edges are not smooth and lack a personal touch. The Redmi 7 has a white LED light embedded below the charging light indicator that turns bright/on when the charging is full.
Xiaomi Redmi 7 has a 3.5mm headset jack on the top of the phone and an infrared emitter to control the appliances. The sim card tray holds two Nano-SIMSs and a microSD card. It doesn't provide a c-cable slot which isn’t that big of a deal, but it would have been convenient to have, but then again, we have to keep in mind that this is a budget-friendly phone. This phone is suitable for people who like large displays and at a cheaper price.
Summary
The Redmi 7 comes with a 12-megapixel front camera and a 2.2-megapixel primary rear-view camera with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It doesn't have a wide-angle or extra zoom feature, but it does come with an AI detect sensor to focus & adjust the camera settings automatically.
Redmi 7 also has the basic Pro and Portrait modes to shoot photos and videos with additional options like Group Selfie, Time-lapse, Google Lens, Tilt-Shift. One of the camera settings allows users to choose between average, spot-metering, and centre-weighted to enhance the picture graphics and quality.

Videos can be recorded at 1080p 60fps full HD, and the users can choose the options like widely compatible H.264 and efficient H.265 codecs. The picture quality is decent enough, it is not a high-end AMOLED experience, but it most certainly does a good job. The pictures taken in low light are a little faded/dull because of poor HD night light.
The videos or photos taken at night have poor quality detail. Beautification mode is automatically applied when using the 8-megapixel camera or 2.0-megapixel front camera. However, the beautification mode is aggressive in its filter strength and isn't very subtle in details.
Summary
The performance of the Redmi 7 with the 3 GB RAM variant is relatively better than the low RAM variant. The phone is easy to use and smooth to operate. Although it lags when more apps are running simultaneously in the background, making it difficult for users to switch between multiple applications. The notifications sometimes disappear within a second, mostly due to running applications that need to be cached.
The screen is super reflective and glary in terms of quality. The big screen provides an advantage for gamers to play video games. The legibility of sunlight is poor, but overall viewing angles and the screen contrast are good.
The Xiaomi Redmi 7 comes with an inbuilt set of super-speakers that can play bass and stereo sound with great output. The voice quality is good as compared to other phones with the same price range. No headset is included in the phone as per the Xiaomi standards.
Summary
The Redmi 7 offers a face ID feature along with a fingerprint sensor to unlock the device. The feature can be used to give authorisation for in-app purchases if enabled. It makes it easier for users to unlock the phone and applications with the touch of a finger. It also works with payment applications like Paytm, G-pay, and other bank applications to unlock the system faster.
Face ID is popular among teenagers. However, most people stick to fingerprint sensors. A user can use both the features as per the preference.
Summary
The new Xiaomi Redmi 7 comes with a 4000mAh battery that can last up to 2 days, which is impressive for a phone at a budget-friendly price. It can deliver almost 18 hours of video playback on loop, a 24-hour web surfing session over 4G LTE, and still has 30% battery remaining. The battery life of the Redmi 7 is super impressive as compared to the previous Redmi 6 series.
