Key Highlights
- For owners of electric vehicles equipped with the company’s navigation system, Google is releasing new Maps features
- Only a small number of EVs, notably models from Polestar and Volvo, have Google Maps pre-installed
- EVs’ new features will start rolling out in the coming months
Google is launching new Maps features for EV drivers with vehicles that have Google built-in as more drivers and automakers switch to electric vehicles. The goal is to make it easier to locate the best EV charging station and to plan trips where charging might be necessary. The features, variations of which were added to the Maps mobile app in November, are meant to help EV drivers who experience range anxiety. Google Maps Features For EV Drivers
It will be simple for drivers to locate nearby charging stations with chargers of 150 kilowatts or more capacity for a faster charge using Maps on their car’s display screen. Additionally, Maps will suggest the optimal stop for any travel that requires a stop to charge an EV based on elements such as the volume of traffic, the EV’s charge level, and how much energy it anticipates the EV to use.

Maps on EVs will also indicate when locations such as supermarkets have on-site charging facilities. As a result, drivers who type “Supermarket” into the search bar will see that some markets have a little charging station indicator next to the market’s rating and below the address. It will be useful to know where EV drivers can continually top off their vehicles as they run errands because they are frequently urged to do so to ensure long battery life and prevent driving on a low battery.
When Will The New Features Roll Out?
Google said all of the new EV features will be released in the coming months. Three months after adding filters for fast charging stations and EV plug compatibility to the smartphone app, Google has now added new Maps features for electric vehicles.
Volvo, Polestar, Renault, and General Motors are among the automakers that have vehicles with Google built in. Beginning with the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3, Google said at the beginning of the year that it would roll out a new high-definition version of Maps for automobiles.
