Apple is currently testing two different prototypes for the second-generation Studio Display. The company might pick just one of them for the final product or release both models with different screen sizes or technical features.
- The model numbers reportedly being tested are J427 and J527
- These could either be alternative designs or one might serve as a slightly enhanced version of the other
More Choices For Mac Users
Unlike the current Studio Display which is available in a single 27-inch size with a 5K Retina panel and 600 nits of brightness, the next-gen display could offer:
- Multiple screen sizes
- Different feature sets
This would be helpful for customers using devices like the Mac mini, Mac Studio, or Mac Pro.
Could Replace Pro Display XDR Too?
There is also speculation that one of these prototypes might replace Apple’s high-end Pro Display XDR which was introduced in 2019 alongside the Mac Pro. If true, Apple may offer both mid-range and premium monitor options in its display lineup.
