Qualcomm is populating its product portfolio with the launch of new Snapdragon series mobile processors. The brand earlier launched the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipsets for budget and mid-range phones. Now, the company has introduced its most advanced SoC in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The latest octa-core mobile chipset by Qualcomm is designed to be the powerhouse for high-end flagship phones going forward. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Chipset Key Highlights
Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship mobile processor at the Snapdragon summit 2022. Qualcomm has revealed the new premium octa-core chipset can deliver around 35 and 25 percent better CPU and GPU performance respectively compared to its predecessor.
This top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset is fabricated using a 4nm process which is also used by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset. Qualcomm further has enabled this premium mobile chipset with the Ray Tracing feature for mobile games. This is one of the biggest highlights of this latest Snapdragon chipset.

In addition to the improved CPU and GPU performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also brings better AI capabilities and connectivity support. This chipset will not only support faster 5G network support but also Wi-Fi 7 for improved internet speeds. Qualcomm has integrated its in-house FastConnect 7800 connectivity system that helps with high-speed internet speeds (5.8Gbps).
When we speak of the CPU cores, the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 processor has an octa-core cluster design comprising one 3.2GHz prime core, four 2.8GHz performance cores, and three 2.0GHz efficiency cores. The memory compatibility is LPDDR5x RAM, while the storage compatibility is UFS 4.0.
In terms of multimedia (ISP) compatibility, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor offers up to 144Hz QHD+ display resolution or 4K @60Hz and can record up to 8K HDR videos @30fps. This processor also brings in support for 4K@120fps vidos and has multiple format support including Dolby Vision, HDR/ HDR 10+, and HLG, etc.
List Of Smartphones Powered By Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Chipset
As of now, the exact smartphone models that will be announced with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset isn’t confirmed. OPPO could be amongst the first brands to launch the Find X2 with this flagship mobile chipset. Other brands that are confirmed to launch smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset are Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, and OnePlus. Samsung and iQOO could also join this bandwagon going forward, but the exact timeline would be difficult to analyze.
