We’ll start this flagship chipset comparison with CPU. Speaking of the architecture, both Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 888 SoC have octa-cores with a base frequency of 3.0Ghz and 2.84Gz respectively. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset comprises one 3Ghz Cortex-X2 core, three 2.5Ghz Cortex-A710 cores, and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A510 CPU cores.
The Snapdragon 888 SoC features one 2.28Gz Cortex-X1 core, three 2.42GHz Cortex-A78 cores, and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Both Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 888 processor offer powerful performance and are 5G enabled. Qualcomm has manufactured the SD 8 Gen 1 SoC on a 4nm fabrication process, while the Snapdragon 888 is built on 5nm fabrication.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Vs Snapdragon 888: GPU Performance
Coming to GPU performance, it is one integral hardware aspect that determines how smoothly the device can render extensive graphics. The flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is clubbed with Adreno 730 GPU, while the Snapdragon 888 processor employs the Adreno 660 GPU. The total GPU frequency offered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is 840MHz, while the Snapdragon 888 delivers 818MHz of GPU frequency. The DirectX and OpenCL version of both GPUs is 12 and 2.0 respectively. The graphics architecture Adreno 700 and Adreno 600 respectively on both chipsets is capable to render any extensive graphics without hiccups or lags.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Vs Snapdragon 888: Memory Compatibility, Multimedia (ISP)
Moving on to the memory and multimedia ISP compatibility, both Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 888 processor supports LPDDR5 RAM with a maximum memory frequency of 3200MHz and a bandwidth of 51.2 Gbit/s. The NPU (Neural processor unit) is Hexagon 780 on both chipsets and the storage type supported is UFS 3.0/ UFS 3.1 for the Snapdragon 888 and UFS 3.1 for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
The max display resolution supported by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is 3840 x 2160. The same is supported by the Snapdragon 888 as well. Coming to the camera resolution, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor can capture 1 x 200MP photos, and up to 8K@30fps videos. The Snapdragon 888 chipset can capture 200MP photos, and up to 8K@30fps videos. The video and audio codecs with both processors are the same. The video codecs available with both these flagship Qualcomm processors are H.264, H.265, VP8, and VP9, while the audio codecs are AAC, AIFF, CAF, MP3, MP4, and WAV.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Vs Snapdragon 888: Connectivity Speeds
Qualcomm has integrated the Snapdragon X65 modem on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset which supports LTE Cat.24 (4G) and dual-band 5G. The 5G speeds offered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset are up to 2500MBPS, while the upload speeds offered are up to 316MBPS. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 888 processor features the Snapdragon X60 modem with LTE Cat. 22 4G network. The internet download and upload speeds here are the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Both chipsets come with Bluetooth 5.2 wireless network support as well.
