OnePlus 9RT 5G

While the OnePlus 9RT appears to be heavier on paper, it doesn't feel as heavy in use, especially if you remove the silicone cover that comes with the device. When you put the cover on, you suddenly feel the weight of all that machinery drooping down in your pocket. Aside from its dimensions, the OnePlus 9RT is a stunning smartphone. It comes in hacker black and glossier nanosilver color options, as well as a glass back with a matte finish and an aluminium chassis. The hacker black variant we used for this review has a nice shimmer to it at the back, which elevates an otherwise unimpressive color. Aside from the glass back, the phone has a triple camera setup that is placed in a vertically placed camera setup that is stacked towards the left side of the back, which is slightly different, and perhaps better, than what we saw on the OnePlus 9R.  The power button is on the right, and the volume rockers are on the left. At the bottom, you'll find the SIM card tray, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille.

The OnePlus 9RT has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP primary camera with a Sony IMX766 sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP depth camera, which is slightly better than the 48MP primary sensor found on the rest of the OnePlus 9 series. The phone has a 16MP selfie camera with a Sony IMX 471 sensor on the front, which it shares with the rest of the OnePlus 9 series. Overall, the OnePlus 9RT is a minor step up from the rest of the OnePlus 9 series.

Aside from that, the OnePlus 9RT has a mixed bag of camera performance when it comes to taking photos with the rear camera. But there is one area where it excels: clarity. Whether in low-light conditions or in bright sunlight, the phone captures every detail of the subject with precision. And zooming in on the image or capturing images with the macro camera reveals the amount of detail that the phone manages to capture, which is quite impressive. It does, however, have its ups and downs. When capturing shadows, it tends to follow a similar pattern, especially when there is enough light. The selfie camera is no exception. Images taken in bright outdoor lighting have depth and clarity. However, in both of these departments, the phone tends to fail in low light and indoor light conditions. Despite this, the color reproduction is still accurate.

The phone's display is consistent with this. The OnePlus 9RT has a 6.62-inch fluid AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 600Hz, a resolution of 10802400 pixels, and Gorilla Glass protection. Aside from that, the phone's display is well-lit and easy to read even in bright sunlight. The colors are vibrant, but a little oversaturated. While this does not make a huge difference, it is noticeable, especially if you have previously used OnePlus smartphones. Having said that, the OnePlus 9RT does provide a very comfortable video viewing experience. I've been binge-watching a lot of shows lately and I've been impressed by the clarity it provides.

In terms of performance, the OnePlus 9RT is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. In my experience, the OnePlus 9RT is quite dependable, especially in day-to-day use, and it easily handles everything you throw at it. Be it multitasking with apps on a busy workday, which for me mostly consists of a bunch of email apps, messaging apps, social media apps, and the calling bulk load, or binge-watching series and movies on OTT services like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar (did someone mention The Eternals?) over the weekend, the OnePlus 9RT threw no tantrums.

The OnePlus 9RT includes a 4,500mAh dual-cell battery, which is standard across all OnePlus 9 smartphone models. The charging technology is where this phone differentiates itself from the rest of the series or at least some of the models in the series. The Warp Charge 65T charger comes standard with the OnePlus 9RT. The charger is the same one that comes with the OnePlus 9 Pro smartphone.
