As the year comes to an end, some features and apps also did. This year, numerous services from companies including Google, Facebook, Apple, and others came to an end. The list covers tech services that were considered enormous bets when they were first introduced and products that dominated for more than a decade. Here are some of the tech services and gadgets that became obsolete this year.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Internet Explorer has been discontinued after 25 years. The company clarified, “However, both browsers and the web have advanced. We began from scratch since incremental changes to Internet Explorer couldn’t keep up with changes made to the web as a whole. The best browser for Windows is Microsoft Edge, a quicker, more secure, and contemporary browser.”

YouTube Go App

In August of this year, YouTube Go got discontinued. The app was first launched in 2016. It offered nearby sharing and offline viewing. YouTube Go contained a number of features geared toward data costs, weak signal reception, and the pervasive use of SD cards on Android devices, similar to other apps created for emerging markets.

iPod Touch

It was first introduced 20 years ago and was a well-liked option at the time. However, Apple stated in May 2022 that the iPhone-iPod hybrid device will no longer be sold as all of its stock had been used up. The iPod product line has come to an end as a result.

Apple iCloud Documents and Data Service

Apple iCloud Documents and Data Service was first released in 2014. It was a system that automatically synced data from numerous apps and made it accessible on a variety of devices. The company claims that iCloud Drive “allows you to easily save, view, and share files with friends and family.” It has now been discontinued. You can view the documents you store in iCloud Drive on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC, and they are updated across all of your devices.

Instagram IGTV, Hyperlapse, and Boomerang

The company stated in a blog post that the goal of stopping IGTV is to simplify the application’s video platform as much as feasible. Both the 2015-launched Boomerang and the 2014-launched Hyperlapse were also pulled out.
