Key Highlights
- Google Play Store now lets you download two apps at once, similar to the App Store
- This feature is available on Pixel phones with the latest Play Store version
- It’s not perfect yet, as it only works for new apps, not updates
Google has improved the Play Store to be more like the App Store. Now, you can download two apps at the same time on the Google Play Store, just like you can on the App Store. This means no more waiting for one app to install before you can start installing another one on your Android phone. Apple allows three apps to download at once, but this new feature on the Play Store is a relief for people who don’t want to wait for each app to install separately. The Latest Play Store Update
The newest version of the Play Store, 40.6.31, lets you download two apps at the same time. When you download apps on a Pixel smartphone, you’ll see the ones downloading in color on your home screen, and the ones waiting to download are in gray. You can only download two apps at once right now, and any others you’re downloading will say “Pending.” This is a bit different from what we heard before. Some people thought you’d be able to download at least five apps at once, but that might change later.
Not Perfect Yet
Although Google is trying to catch up with Apple, this new Play Store feature isn’t perfect. It only works for new apps. So, if you’re updating apps, they’ll still finish one by one. Apple lets you download three apps at once, whether they’re new or updates. Google probably won’t change this anytime soon, but maybe they’ll look at Apple and think about it.

Who Gets The Feature?
Right now, only Pixel phones with the newest Play Store version have this multi-download feature. But all Android users will probably get it eventually. Google hasn’t officially announced it yet, so we don’t know when it will roll out to everyone.
