One Plus 9: The Beginning Of A Revolutionary Partnership

(Last Updated On: March 12, 2021)

The current time has seen an increase in the usage of phones and electronics, this only means good news for Tech Giants. Tapping into this base of tech-savvy consumers, OnePlus is all set to release its new flagship in the form of the OnePlus 9 series.

The cheery at the top is the new partnership that OnePlus has committed to with Swedish camera technology giant Hasselblad. This new partnership promises breath-taking photo capabilities in the upcoming flagships from OnePlus.

The OnePlus 9 series is set to offer three variants namely: OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9E. The variants have been designed keeping in mind the consumer’s budget and the best features that can be included in the budget.

Discussing the Pro variant, OnePlus has amped up its design and features. The talk of the town being the Quad Camera setup designed in collaboration with Hasselblad which will use a custom Sony IMX789 image sensor.

The setup includes a 64MP Primary Camera, a 16MP Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens and a 12MP Telephoto Camera and a 2MP Depth Camera, which can capture perfect snaps. The camera will include a new Hasselblad Pro mode that shall offer better photo controls.

The camera will be shooting in 12 Bit RAW (64 billion possible colours) and offers 4K video recording at 120 fps (frames per second) and 8K video recording at 30 fps. The front camera consists of a 32 MP lens at the top left corner of the display.

Though the buzz around the OnePlus 9 Pro is about its phenomenal camera setup, the OnePlus has left no stone unturned in creating a beast of a phone packing the 9 Pro with a Snapdragon 888 processor under the hood combined with an 8 GB RAM to offer smooth running capabilities.

The display needs are looked after by an Adreno 660 GPU. The 9 Pro will come with an AMOLED type 6.78-inch display coated with Gorilla Glass v5 with a refresh rate of either 120 Hz or 140 Hz but we’ll have to wait to confirm that.

The screen has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and is designed in a bezel-less punch hole style. The Pro variant will come with a 4500 mAh battery which might be a little underpowered considering the top-notch features the phone offers but to make up for this the OnePlus 9 Pro offers a 65W wired fast charging (Warp Charging Technology) and 30W wireless fast charging.

The only possible hindrance in buying this phone is perhaps its storage capacity. The OnePlus 9 Pro offers 128 GB of non-expandable internal storage. Now 128 GB might seem enough but some might argue it is kind of a caging to offer non-expandable storage. The phone will run an Android v10 OS supporting 5G and is rumoured to have a price tag of Rs.51,999.

Coming to the younger siblings of the OnePlus 9 Pro, the OnePlus 9 is the closest to its elder sibling followed by the 9R. The OnePlus 9 comes with a similar setup in terms of processor, storage capabilities and display compared to the OnePlus 9 Pro. The only difference being in the camera setup.

The OnePlus 9 offers a three-camera array at the back stylishly designed but lacking a few features. The camera setup includes a 64 MP primary camera accompanied by 16 MP and 8 MP lenses. This means that the camera setup lacks a telescope which could reduce its zooming capabilities. The screen size is a bit shorter than the OnePlus 9 Pro coming in at 6.55-inch and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass v5.

The display type is AMOLED with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The OnePlus 9 will also have a Snapdragon 888 with 8 GB RAM and an Adreno 660 GPU inside and run an Android v10 OS supporting 5G. The phone will support 65W wired fast charging (Warp Charging Technology) and 30W wireless fast charging. The OnePlus 9 is rumoured to have a price tag of Rs. 46,999.

The youngest of the family and the low budget option in the series is the OnePlus 9E (which might also end up being called 9R or 9 Lite). Though the 9E is less-priced than the other two phones in the series, yet some features will make this phone the go-to phone for buyers in the mid-range once it hits the store shelves.

The 9E comes with a quad-camera setup made up of a 48 MP primary lens accompanied by 16 MP, 8 MP and 2 MP lenses that complete the setup. The screen size of the OnePlus 9E is larger as compared to the OnePlus 9 coming in at 6.65-inches with an FHD+ display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass v5.

The screen refresh rate stands at 90 Hz comparatively lower in the series but acceptable given the price range. Diving deep the 9E is powered by a Snapdragon 865 along with 6 GB RAM and an Adreno 650 GPU. The device has a 4500 mAh battery and supports 30W wired fast charging only.

All the three phones in the OnePlus 9 series come equipped with an in-screen fingerprint sensor and might include a matte or glossy finish back cover. All in all, it can be said that OnePlus is looking to prove its mettle in terms of camera technology while sticking true to its philosophy of offering better performance at economic price rates.

While many rumours are surrounding the OnePlus 9 series the one certain fact is that on March 23 2021 at 7:30 PM IST, the virtual launch of the series will bring every feature to the limelight for the buyers to admire.
