Tata Tiago EV vs Tata Tigor EV || Sibling Rivalry || Electric Hatch or Electric Sedan?

(Last Updated On: )

Tata Motors is on a mission to expand its range of personal electric vehicles. The company has established a special subsidiary dubbed “Tata Passenger Electric Mobility” to make EVs more accessible to the general public. The brand wants to create personal electric vehicles for every market group under this branch. Tata Motors has already established its position in the personal electric mobility market with the Nexon EV before introducing the Tigor EV and most recently, the Tiago EV. This latest launch has ensured that Indians now have access to a sub 10 lakh rupee electric car, the Tiago EV. Yes, it is largely based on the Tigor EV but sees a far more lower entry cost point. So which one should you consider? The value based electric hatchback or the practical electric sedan?

Tata Tiago EV Vs Tigor EV – Dimensions

Since the Tiago EV is a hatchback and the Tigor EV is a compact sedan, they each serve distinct car segments. But first, let’s look at the table to see how the various dimensions differ.

DimensionsTata Tiago EVTata Tigor EV
Length3,769 mm3,993 mm
Width1,677 mm1,677 mm
Height1,536 mm1,532 mm
Wheelbase2,400 mm2,450 mm

As you can see above, while both the cars have an identical width, the Tigor EV, being a sedan, is longer by 224mm. This is mostly got to do with the addition of the boot. In terms of height, the Tiago is 4mm longer. The longer wheelbase of the Tigor EV also liberates more passenger room on the inside. Both the cars get a solid piece grille, EV badging and smart looking wheel caps.

Tata Tiago EV Vs Tata Tigor EV – Powertrain & Battery Pack

When EVs are concerned their powertrain is the main thing. Both the EVs from Tata Motors use the same Ziptron technology but boast different specifications. To keep the pricing low, the Tiago EV comes with an optional smaller battery pack as seen below.

SpecificationsTata Tiago EVTata Tigor EV
Battery Pack19.2 kWh/24 kWh26 kWh
Power60 bhp/74 bhp74 bhp
Torque110 Nm/114 Nm170 Nm
Claimed Range250 km/ 315 km (MIDC)306 km (ARAI)
Charging TimeUp to 6.4 hrs with 3.3 kW home charger
Up to 3.6 hrs with 7.2 kW AC fast charger
10-80% in 57 minutes with 25kW DC fast charger
0%-80% in 8 hours 45 minutes from 15A plug point
0%-80% in 65 minutes from any 25 kW DC charger

As we told you above, two alternative battery packs are included with the Tiago EV to make it more accessible to more people. Additionally, because the battery packs in the Tiago EV are smaller than those in the Tigor EV, the Tiago EV charges faster than the Tigor EV. In terms of range, the Tiago EV has a longer range on paper, however, it is MIDC range rather than ARAI, thus the range in real life may differ. Both EVs comes with a 8 Year/ 1,60,000 km (whichever is earlier) battery warranty.
The smaller battery version also has a lower power output. While the certified range isn’t out yet, the 24 kWh Tiago might end up giving a longer range than the 26 kWh Tigor version. This is down to the fact that max torque is limited to 114 Nm in the Tiago EV as compared to 170 Nm on the Tigor. So yes, overall performance will also be a less in the Tiago EV (even in the bigger battery pack version).
